10 Study Strategies for Finals Week

Whether you’re in high school or college, the weeks leading up to an exam can be very stressful. Being unable to finish the portion could be a complete nightmare. Before your final tests, you might find yourself scurrying to get notes photocopied. Some may be unclear about certain concepts or unable to understand what is expected of them in the exam. Others might be thorough with the portion, but still, be nervous as they do not have a strategy in place to tackle the exam.

To excel in your finals, it is important to prepare yourself in advance. Knowing how to study for exams is critical for making sure you invest your time and effort intelligently. Here are a few study tips that will help you to prepare better and ace your finals!

Study strategies for finals week-

1. Create a timetable

The best way to study is to make a timetable for yourself. Keep the pace with which you study in mind while creating your timetable. This will help you allocate your time realistically.

2. Start early

Last-minute exam preparation leads to unnecessary pressure and poor retention. But if you start well in advance, it will reduce the stress of finishing the exam portion.

3. Figure out your study pattern

You could be comfortable with study group sessions or be better off studying alone. Choose a study style that suits you best and stick to it. This might help you perform better.

4. Organise your study material

Sort out your notes and organise them so it’s easier for you to study. Highlight important concepts, formulas, dates and definitions as this will help you concentrate your efforts better.

5. Take breaks

Studying smart is better than just studying hard. Your mind needs to be ready to absorb the concepts in your study material. Make sure you take breaks to recharge. This will help you focus better when you get back to studying. Balance is key.

6. Study your lessons as if you were to teach it

The best way to study is to learn your portion so well that you recite your answers in a way that you’re teaching someone. By doing this you’re sure to be thorough with your work!

7. Follow a healthy diet

Food is the key ingredient that will keep you going. Eat fruits, vegetables, broccoli, fish, almonds and dry fruits that boost your immune system and keep your brain healthy and active. Also, drink plenty of water to stay hydrated.

8. Use flashcards

Use flashcards and write important pointers that will help you understand better. This method is very useful when you have multiple concepts to memorise.

9. Exercise

Never compromise on your health. Go for walks, exercise or meditate so as to clear unnecessary thoughts from your mind. It will help to build your concentration.

10. Get enough sleep

Ensure that you stay well-rested. Don’t sleep during the day and study at night. This will greatly affect your sleeping patterns. Get a good 6-8 hours of sleep at night. It will help you remain fresh and active and even perform better.

Once you study hard and get through finals week, treat yourself because, well, you deserve it!
