List of Top Competitive Exams for Students After 10th Grade

It is that time again when students start preparing for competitive tests such as JEE, NEET, and NTSE after their Class 10 exams. They are preparing for a new chapter of their lives as they decide on an academic stream that interests them. And as we know, scores of students choose engineering and medical as their career options. Thus, millions of students each year take popular entrance exams to enter prestigious undergraduate medical and engineering colleges/institutions across India. These are NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) and JEE (Joint Entrance Examination). However, students in the 10th Grade frequently struggle with which competitive exam they must study for and take.

Hence, to make it easy for them, we have drawn up a list of a few well-known and popular competitive exams:

National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET)

Over 13 lakh students across India and her union territories appear for NEET each year. Candidates start preparing for it during their Class XI exam to get admission into medical or dental colleges. Students put in great effort to score high marks in this exam and enroll in coaching sessions, take practice exams, give mock tests, and opt for NEET online courses. Every year, the Medical Council of India (MCI) specifies the NEET exam syllabus, which includes the subjects, Physics, Chemistry, Botany, and Zoology. In addition to their regular classwork, students can enroll in online NEET tutoring to begin their exam preparation.

Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)

Students who wish to enroll in one of the many engineering institutes in India must take the JEE entrance exam. JEE has two sections, JEE Main and JEE Advanced. While both are tough exams, JEE Advanced is more challenging as it paves the way for undergraduate admission to IITs. JEE-Main is the first step, and those who clear this can take the JEE-Advanced exam. After Class 10, students who desire to pursue an engineering career can begin their JEE preparation. Students with engineering dreams can also start their JEE preparation early, i.e., from Class 8 itself. They can choose from some of the best online courses for JEE preparation to help them in their studies.

National Talent Search Examination (NTSE)

NCERT runs this program at the high school level. It has traditionally been a prestigious and significant one in India as it identifies and recognizes children with exceptional academic aptitude. As part of a national scholarship program, students must adopt several study methods to prepare for the test and perform well. Over 9–10 lakh Class 10 students from Indian states and union territories take this scholarship exam every year. Students must work harder to succeed in Round 2 of the exam as only a few candidates get selected in the first stage. This being a highly competitive test, students take every possible step to ace it. They attend regular coaching sessions, take practice exams, study recorded videos, and participate in live online lessons, among other modes of preparation.

Common-Law Admission Test (CLAT)

CLAT is an all-India common entrance examination conducted by 19 National Law Universities (NLUs) for admission to their undergraduate and graduate degree programs. Aspirants must appear for an entrance test for admission to their undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs. Later, a list of universities is provided to them, which they can apply based on their merit. Students can take the exam only after obtaining their Class XII results. However, they can begin studying for it as soon as they finish Class 10.

Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

The SAT is a standard testing examination conducted by the College Board Organization of the United States. Students who want to study abroad must take it. Besides, almost all overseas institutions require students to take the SAT.
The test focuses on evaluating the learner against three fundamental standards:

  1. Writing, including essay writing and English grammar
  2. Critical Reading in the form of passages for comprehension
  3. Maths

It is a perfect choice for a competitive exam after Class 10 for students who seek admission to international colleges. Also, some of the best SAT prep courses online offer regular revisions, one-on-one doubt removal sessions, and recorded lectures.

Students can take many competitive tests to help them launch their careers after Class 10. Students only have to decide on the one they wish to take before beginning to study for it.
Thankfully, they can also prepare for these competitive exams with the help of numerous digital learning platforms. These options offer complete coaching and most often, run parallel to students’ school classes. The coaching at these platforms includes live interactive classes, recorded video lectures, e-books, online quizzes, webinars, study material, and much more. Thus, students get support and help in all aspects of preparation due to these online platforms.
