Tips to Help Students Cope with Exam Stress

Exam season can be one of the most stressful times in a student’s life. With projects piling up, difficult theories to memorise and never-ending revisions, it can get quite overwhelming. But, it doesn’t have to.

To help you deal with this kind of pressure, we have listed some great study tips. They will help you absorb the information you need without feeling too stressed out and ace your exams like a pro.

Here are the top five study tips.

Organise your study space:

It is very important to decide where you want to study. Pick a place you are most comfortable in and make sure it is clutter-free. Organise your study table and ensure it has enough light pouring in. Studying in a dark and unclean environment won’t help you focus.

Give yourself plenty of time:

A lot of students start preparing for their upcoming exams when the dates are very near. This is not right. Revising in the last minute will only stress you out more. This is also a very common online education misstep that students tend to make. To avoid this, create a study and revision table. Stick to it and make sure to finish all the preparations well in advance.

Use previous exams to practice:

If you are able to get your hands on the previous year’s question paper, then make sure to practice them. This is a great way to understand the style and format. If possible, time yourself while solving these questions. It will help you get used to spending the right amount of time on each question.

Study with friends:

Many students prefer to study or revise alone. While it is a good exercise as it helps you focus better, it may not be a bad idea to revise along with a few friends. This will help you quiz each other, exchange ideas and reduce some tension.

Discuss your answers with others:

If you like the idea of studying alone, then make sure to at least get feedback about your answers from your friends. You may be on the wrong path, and their suggestions may help you get on the right track.

How to manage exam stress:

Now that we have discussed important things that will help you study and score better in your upcoming exams, let’s talk about stress management. While it may not be a great idea to enter your examination room with overconfidence, it is equally bad to step in feeling stressed and anxious. So what do you do?

Here are the few ways to ensure that your stress level does not get out of hand.

Do some exercise:

Go for a run, hit the gym or take a walk down the road. Any kind of physical exercise is bound to keep your stress level in check and your mind focused.

Take regular breaks:

While it is important to study hard, do not be tough on yourself. Whenever you feel like you’re pushing yourself too hard, take a break. This will let your mind relax and body feel de-stressed.

Eat right, sleep well:

Try to get at least a good eight hours of sleep and do not revise in your bed. Also, fuelling your mind and body with healthy food will keep you charged up.

Avoid exam post mortem:

Students have the tendency to analyse all their answers right after the exam is over. Give yourself a break and stop over analysing everything. It’s too late to make any changes, so instead sit back and relax. If you haven’t done well this time, you will get a second chance.

By following these simple tips, you will definitely be able to conquer all your exam fears and be fully prepared for the upcoming term.
