A Quick Guide on How to Crack the SAT Exams

The Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is conducted by the College Board for high school students in the USA. If you’re hoping to secure admission for a UG course in an American college, you will need to sit for the exam when you’re in the 11th standard. The exam takes place 4 times a year, and it is possible to sit multiple times to improve your SAT scores. But, this can be quite expensive. With our SAT exam preparation tips, we’ll help you make the most of your SAT course and get admission into the college of your dreams!

Tip 1: Make Sure You Get the Basics Right

This may sound quite easy, but it’s absolutely crucial, especially in the maths section of the exam. In the weeks leading up to your first test, make sure you sit for SAT practice test. Ensure you’ve got your elementary maths concepts right.

Tip 2: Read every question calmly

This is easier said than done, but it’s important to keep your wits about you while reading every question. If you need to, read a question two or three times before you set about answering it. The more familiar you become with the words, the easier it will be for you to understand how to answer.

Tip 3: Time Yourself

The SAT is a bit like a marathon. You will need to pace yourself and ensure that you leave yourself enough time to answer all the questions. A good way to do this is by first scoping out the difficulty of each question. They all have the same weight, so you can finish the easy to medium questions first quickly. This will leave you with enough time to ponder over the more difficult ones.

Tip 4: When in Doubt, Eliminate the Wrong Answers

Since a majority of the questions are multiple-choice, you can find the correct answer by using the process of elimination. Every time you eliminate an obviously wrong answer, you bring yourself closer to the right one.

Tip 5: Be Mindful of Negative Marking

Every wrong answer will cost you a quarter-point. So, instead of making random guesses to answer all your questions, leave the answers you don’t know blank. You may not get a point for answering it correctly, but you won’t lose points for choosing the wrong answer.

Tip 6: Prepare in Advance

A night of cramming will not help you ace the SATs at all. The best way to prepare for the SAT course is by taking several SAT practise tests before sitting for the actual exam.

Securing the highest possible SAT score may not be possible. But, with these tips, you will definitely be able to do your best and get the score you deserve. If you feel like there’s room for improvement after your first attempt, don’t worry. You can always attempt the SAT again and improve your score.
