JEE Main 2021 – What You Need to Know

India’s National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the schedule, syllabus and paper pattern for the upcoming Joint Entrance Exam (JEE). Here’s a look at all the vital information that aspiring applicants must know.

Application Dates:

Application DatesThe application process for the JEE-Main has already started. Students can apply any time until 16th January 2021. All applicants must pay the fees for the exam by 17th January 2021 at the latest. To apply for the exam, students must study a minimum of 5 subjects, including mathematics, chemistry and physics, in the 12th standard.

JEE-Main Exam Dates

From next year, the NTA will have four exams from February to May. The dates for the exams in 2021 are:

  • 23rd to 26th February
  • 15th to 18th March
  • 27th to 30th April
  • 24th to 28th May

There will be two shifts for each exam. The morning session will be from 9 to noon, while the afternoon session will be from 3 to 6.
Students can choose to appear for just one exam or all four exams. Individuals who appear for more than one exam will have the opportunity to improve their score. Students can expect results within five days from the last exam. The rank provided to each student will be based on the candidate’s best score across all four exams.

JEE-Main Paper Pattern

Paper PatternThe new JEE paper has two sections for each subject. The first section, Section A, is compulsory. Students must attempt all 60 multiple-choice questions here. In the second section, Section B, students can choose to answer just five of the 10 questions provided for each subject. The answers to these questions are all numerical. The NTA has done away with negative marking for Section B. In total, candidates must answer 75 out of 90 questions in the exam.

Further, starting in 2021, the JEE-Main will be held in 13 languages. Apart from English, Hindi and Gujarati, the exam will also be conducted in Assamese, Bengali, Punjabi, Urdu, Marathi, Odia, Kannada, Telegu, Malayalam and Tamil.

SyllabusThe JEE syllabus for 2021 will remain the same. For Paper 1, students will have to attempt sections on mathematics, physics and chemistry.
