How Engineering Students Should Prepare for Campus Placements

Every year, thousands of students graduate with an engineering degree in their hand and dreams of earning a handsome salary in their mind. But, did you know that only 20% of engineering students from India are employable? Yes, the employability rate of engineers in India is this low.

If you are an engineering student, at this point, you must be wondering what you can do to fall into that sweet 20% spot. Right? This is exactly what we will deal with, in this article.

Here are a few important steps that you must follow in order to become employable and secure a good job:

1. Participate in internship programs:

Campus placement tips

India is one of the largest producers of engineers in the world. This is why you need to have something that adds extra points to your resume. Therefore, it is advisable to take up as many internships and projects as you can. This will give you enough experience and show your recruiters that you have the ability to apply your knowledge into practice. It also reflects light on your work ethics and shows that you can finish things on time (as you have managed both studies and work before) as well as help you settle into work environment easily. Besides, internships help you create important networks and also teaches you how to balance your professional and personal life.

2. Apply what you have learned:

Rote learning of chapters and definitions may help you score a high percentage in your exam, but it does not guarantee a good job. Recruiters look for candidates who are practical and methodical. Someone who has the ability to educate and train themselves and grow with the organisation.

Until and unless you are someone who questions everything, and has the potential to find answers, you will not be able to impress the hiring committee. So, make it a habit to educate yourself, find answers online and look for material that helps you with your research or project work. This is how technology is shaping the future of education.

3. Expand your horizon:

The best way to get your dream job is by gaining some industry knowledge. You can do this by enrolling in competitive online courses and other training programs. This is important as it will give you some leverage and make you stand out in the crowd. So, make sure to be on the lookout for advanced courses in your field.

4. Be a jack of all trades and master of some:

It is important to have a good overall score, but it is equally important to be at the supreme level in at least one of the subjects. So, start looking for subjects that interest you the most and begin to work hard on it. This will show the recruiter the area of your niche and excellence.

5. Non-core is also an option:

If your core subjects don’t make you happy, or you do not see yourself doing a job related to your field, that’s okay! The main idea is to find a job that pays you well and makes you happy. So, if your core subjects don’t work for you, utilise all your free time to work on something that does. Make it your aim to learn about this new subject and gain as much experience as you can. You’ll see that it will soon harvest good results.

So, go ahead and practice these simple steps to get a great job and build a life you have always dreamt of.
